This is a direct follow up for Read or Die, so you might want to watch that title before.

Setting

Michelle, Maggie and Anita are three paper users who work for Dokusensha - the Chinese Secret Agency. When a Japanese writer, Nenene Sumiregawa, visits Hong Kong and need protection, they end up being her "body-guard". Little does they know there are a lot more into this protection work than they would ever imagine.

Pacing

In contrast with Read or Die, Read or Dream delivers a lot more quality character and plot development, with fair time to unveil it's plot, adding what lacked for it's predecessor: time.

Read or Dream does not lack action, adventure and even dramatic moments. Read or Dream might not seam a direct follow up to Read or Die's plot (which seamed ended at that title), but in time as the main plot unveils, the viewer will start linking both titles - and wait patiently as the inevitable reunion with that old title's main characters come and you get the real sense of continuity.

Do not let this one pass, even if you were not the best fan of Read or Die.

Conclusion

An excellent follow up and even a stand-alone work, although it was good it was made into a 26 episodes, you will still find an eventual filler episode and some parts might drag a little. Focusing on the three paper user sisters, Read or Dream also brings in some other characters, and properly develop all of them to captivating characters, while not forgetting the original (Read or Die) series characters. Although with plenty of action sequences, Read or Dream focus a lot on it's plot and characters, and thus might boast less action than one would expect, but it's so done to keep up a good quality plot.
