Setting

Coming immediately after the OVA with the same name, this time the focus is at the characters. Read the review of 'Mahou tsukai tai OVA' for more info. It should be best to watch it before picking this up.

Pacing

Different from the OVA, the series does not have the alien invasion but an intense character driven development focusing on romance and friendship, which can be disappointing to some. It has some 'daily-life' feel to it. The series, although with a pacing somewhat slower than the OVA, have an interesting but conclusive ending.

With the extra time the title have comparing to the small OVA, the characters are a lot more developed, except perhaps Akane, who is shadowed by the other character's dramas and events, but gets some special attention at a given episode ... watching a giant Akane in the middle of Tokyo is certainly worth it.

Conclusion

The plot itself is kind of shallow and silly, but there is some mystery to it that - perhaps - can counter the plot. However, as one will take note, the series is not about a solid plot, but only to show us more of our favorite Mahou Tsukai Tai characters together again doing their magic, and than again, we have the extra comedy and romance.

A nice follow up. Could be better if had used a little more plot depth, but still a nice watch.

Before one labels a history as cliché, predictable or beaten, think about this: "What really matters is life and how you live it, not the predictability of Death"
