Bugs and Suggestions : I'm tired, should I quit the site?

Oh well

I don't have the smallest shread of will to keep the site going, and although I was a little bit thrilled with the new layout I did a couple of months ago with a few new changes, I quite franquily don't even visit the site anymore. I don't think the other moderators visit it that much. People didn't even remember my birthday =p

Ideas? I have lots of them. Time and will to do them? ah ... not likelly. If I wanted I could come up with any of the following ideas in two weeks, but for what reason? I'm glad some people like the reviews, and that's the only thing that will make me pay my ISP bill this month.

The idea that is more appealing to me is to crop and chop everything, get the site to be like my site with some 'friends' (small letters: some VIPs), keep the reviews, wallpapers and scans and that's it, a site that I actually CAN visit once a week and not feel lacking.

The second is to keep the site as it is, perhaps remove some stuff, forget "new VIP membership" ship and only keep the review section alive. Wallpapers as I create them (I never did so little walls in my life =p)

The third would get my A.I. system (which is ready) and remake the site with it, it would accept everything, like a WIKI except intelligent. You want to add a wallpaper, you DESCRIBE in a textfield your wallpaper, upload, and it automatically (not programmed, it knows what it's doing) get the category, title and stuff ready. Review sections would support infinite data on-the-fly. Neat huh? too much work. Perhaps next year, or the other, or never (I actually did the script to convert the current MySQL database to the A.I. database, but I would still need to remake the site anyway).

Forth idea is to separate the site in two: adults and child. Adults get the first idea: simple clean site with good reviews and the BEST wallpapers, perhaps a little forum. The second is free-for-all, just post whatever you want like on all those other sites you know of, a big pile of junk called "forum" where the most frequented thread is "what color is your hair?" and perhaps I thought of a trading card system with anime/anime characters (like point systems) to create sub-fanclubs for both anime and characters. It would be popular as hell, I can see thoughsants of 12 year olds clogging the server ... I wouldn't dare get to the site even if they paid me.

And in the mean time the site goes on dying (10% less visitors each week, we reached a record bottom visit count last week in 3 years), with 20+ reviews to be made (watch Armitage-III, Kurenai, Lucky Star, Blue Seed and even Wall-E)

Prospects? I will most likelly go with idea 1 ... in like a decade.

Agreed with SilverFaerie. Though life do come, and I know not all of us are active as it we use to be, but I check the site always at least every 2 days, and i'm not sure how I missed this post too.

I actually got 2-4 extractions ready to submit but since the submission for PNG scans is offline at the moment, i haven't since then. I would really hate for this site to go down, since this site is one of the 8 site that I visit everyday, excluding CNN.com.

Just think about it a bit, and what ever you are willing to do, i'll support that choice of yours. (except financially >.<, which is really the most important but Life like silverfaerie says, "life in the United States is rather pricy" and I gotta pay for college too >.<, god those Physics book and Calc books are expensive.

I'm not actually worried with the fact people are not active, just that I don't have the will to keep running the site. Either way, seams it's fine now since there is little to no moderation to be done, so I don't see much harm and keeping it quiet for now.

I have been working on the new layout for some days, and the system which would run the new site (which is the one I developed at my workplace/home in the last 6 monthes) is ready for about a month and have lots better features than the system I used at this site, so it's somewhat a matter of time until I get my act together and pop up all of the sudden with a new site. The only thing still keeping me from working hard on a new site is which path I take on the next version. I'm inclined to the third option (A.I.database + community features) but the A.I. system is the only part of the new system that is not fully tested (because no customer used it yet, actually my bosses don't even know it exists =p)

I'm busy getting ready for my big move overseas at the moment, but just thought I'd add my 2¢ on this: I'm still visiting the site regularly, and I really appreciate that it doesn't contain the loads of crap that the larger sites have. Less visitors? I see that as a potentially good thing: fewer leechers, less crap, lower costs. Wasn't that part of the rationale behind implementing the VIP restriction for uploading?

I'm all for slimming the site down and keeping it to the small community as it is -- focused, good quality -- to share scans and walls and such. The AI system would really be far too much work to be worth it, unless you're really keen on building proof-of-concept for that idea. As for adult/child ... that's pretty much a do-not-want; I don't even want to imagine what the "child" section will be like... plus there's the cost burden for storage and bandwidth for all that crap, yuck.

Whatever it is, don't quit, 'kay?

Gotta get back to my packing!

Glad to see you around Hamster... I bet you know some about all the delays on my "A.I." ideas, so fanatic about getting it to work ... sometimes people should realize they can't do EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME. And I'm here to bring two news which are very important:

First, I just finished watching "FLAG", and to comment on how good it is, here is my asnwer: this anime alone, with it's last episode alone, have ignited my full love for anime. I have will and power to keep this site an redo it again and again for some years just to tell you how great FLAG is. I cannot be unfair and tell you it's the best anime I ever watched - there are so many good anime, and just so like Sekai no Senki and Fantastic Children, each at their time, had brought reason to my love for anime and a new life into my willpower, so did FLAG. Not the best? but certainly top 5 (considering I'm nearing 400 titles watched, that's something). GO WATCH FLAG NOW

And thus the second news is quite obvious: I'm dropping the A.I. ideas for a later version (or parallel version) and I will start immediatly as of tomorrow the new site. I simply HAVE to have site that tell you guys how some anime are, and that brings some ideas to a new layout to really tell you what is GOOD and what is just ... normal.

Again, no matter what happens, do not miss FLAG. Buying it is still costy (4x $25 = $100 for a 13 episodes series is TOO MUCH) but seriously ... I'm this close to buying it blind.

I cryed for like the start of the last episode until one hour after finished the series, and I'm sure I will cry some more reviewing it first thing tomorrow.

i think maybe taking off the vip would get more people registering. we might get more visitors and pngs and walls ?
uh or maybe im just dumb.
the vip (if people dont look into it) might make people not want to try and submit their work.
idk im rambling. :

The VIP is only for the submission of works. Not the download of PNGs or Wallies. The VIP is so only lesser extractions wouldn't be using the bandwidth and since this site is mostly a smaller site.

Well here for some news .... I will drop my idea of A.I. database because it's taking too long to port the new system, so I will make yet another "conventional" version.

Also the fact that the gallery is HEAVILLY BUGGED is annoying me so I have to get things working. I will start working on Daisuki 2009 (if this is D2008, D2009 is the only name I can came up with =p) very soon. I already have the layout done BTW ^^

And DO expect lots of changes. I think both people who come for the reviews, and those who come for wallpapers and (soon) community feeling will like the new changes.

Hello from LA, where things are finally settling down since moving here from halfway across the world. ^_^

Too bad about the "AI" system though, that would have been interesting even though it's really not worth the effort >_<;;. (Incidentally, my new professor is obsessed with semantics =b) But glad to hear about the planned improvements, can't wait to see what's coming!
